Honors Program

  • Mission

    The mission of the Abu Dhabi University Honors Program is to produce well-versed and socially responsible potential community leaders through creating a stimulating, diverse, interdisciplinary, and student-centered learning environment for those who have distinguished themselves with high academic achievements and a commitment to learning and intellectual growth.

  • Goals

    • Create a community with a diverse group of highly motivated and academically distinguished college students.
    • Develop students’ analytical and critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills through provoking them to challenge assumptions.
    • Enhance communication, writing, and research skills.
    • Develop leadership skills and a team-work spirit.
    • Cultivate an understanding of, and appreciation for, global and multicultural issues.
    • Provide an arena for talented faculty to collaborate and create innovative learning models for gifted students.
  • Curriculum

    The Honors Program will consist of 10 courses (30Credit Hours) with the following composition:

    1.6 General education courses ( 18 Credit Hours)

    English II
    ENG 105(H)
    English I
    ENG 100(H)
    General Psychology
    PSY 201(H)
    Islamic Culture
    ISL100(H)
    UAE and GCC Society
    SOC 201(H)

    2.3 core courses from the student’s major (9 Credit Hours). Details on the honors courses for each major will be provided by the college.

    3.Honors Capstone Project (3-4 Credit Hours) based on the student’s major.

  • Admission Requirements

    • A minimum high school average of 95% or its equivalent.
    • A minimum of 6 in each band for the IETLS or its equivalent.
    • Maximum 1,000 word essay explaining the applicant’s interest in joining the Honors Program (written on campus).
    • Evidence of leadership and community service or extracurricular activities in high school.
    • 2 reference letters, at least one of which is from his/her previous school.
    • Interview with the Honors Program Committee.
  • Honor Student Privileges

    • 30% Scholarship.
    • Small classes that are enriched with learning opportunities and increased interaction with honors faculty.
    • “Honors” designation on academic transcripts upon completing the program.
    • Formal recognition at the Honors Recognition Events.
    • Specialized academic advising and mentorship.
    • Priority in registration.
    • Honors student research grants.
    • Extended period for library loans.
    • Membership in Honors Society.
    • Serving as mentors at the Academic Success Center.
    • Representation in campus governance.
