Credit Hours

Courses are calculated in semester credit hours. Each course carries a certain number of credits that are awarded after the successful completion of that course.

Students admitted into ADU for a baccalaureate degree program must complete the total number of credit hours of the required/elective courses taught in a certain College, as well as the required total number of credit hours for the degree.

Students must pass any remedial or other developmental courses during their first academic year. The pre-degree courses (numbered below 100) are not computed in the cumulative GPA and do not count towards the degree requirements, but they do appear on the student's transcript.

One semester credit hour of lecture/tutorial is defined as 50 minutes per week for 15 weeks. One credit hour of laboratory is defined as 100 minutes per week for 15 weeks. Normally, weekly quizzes and mid-term examinations are included in the 15-week semester, with final examinations occurring in a special 16th week set aside specifically for these exams.
