The Office of the Academic Integrity

The Office of Academic Integrity (OAI) was established in 2009, on the directive of the Executive Board of Governors of Abu Dhabi University, and under the leadership of the Chancellor. The responsibility for establishing OAI was entrusted to Dr. Jehan Zitawi, the Dean of the University College at the time. Dr. Zitawi, a widely respected academic leader and known for her unwavering dedication to academic integrity, ethics, and commitment to the wellbeing of Abu Dhabi University community, accepted the responsibility and built the necessary infrastructure to fulfill the mission of OAI.

In March of 2011, and upon the departure of Dr. Zitawi from Abu Dhabi University, Dr. Ali Azad who was the representative of OAI in Al Ain campus, assumed the role of the Interim Head overseeing the operations of OAI at both campuses. Dr. Azad, also the Director of Al Ain Campus of Abu Dhabi University, views the significance of academic integrity within the overall role of higher education in the intellectual development of one’s self. In his words, higher education enriches good citizenship. The broad objective of higher education is to enhance one’s attributes of critical thinking, analytical ability, problem solving, and the tolerance for other’s viewpoints. These attributes can only be enhanced in an environment of higher learning founded on ethics and morality--the two fundamental tenets of academic integrity.
