SPRING SEMESTER BEGINS AT ADU

The Spring Semester at Abu Dhabi University will start this Sunday, February 7, with 4300 students, amongst which approximately 394 are freshman students. It was the first day of classes on both ADU’s Abu Dhabi and Al Ain campuses. The university offers 26 academic programs on bachelor and master degree levels - 19 bachelors programs and 7 masters programs.

The university will be offering a new bachelor of environmental science program for the first time this semester, which is a unique program amongst all educational institutions in the UAE. Sheika Latifa Bint Hamdan Al Nahyan offered 20 scholarships for local female students who are interested in applying for this program.

Dr. Nabil Ibrahim, the ADU Chancellor, pointed out that the university has finished all necessary preparations for the Spring Semester during the Spring break. Preparations for the new semester included the maintenance of labs and classrooms, the appointment of new well-qualified academic staff and faculty members, the maintenance of university facilities and the improvement of student activities. Additionally, the university has been affiliated with some of the world’s most prestigious universities including the University of Berlin, the University of Westminster, Purdue Calumat, Monash University, Bonn University, TU Munich, Georgia University, the University of Wollongong, Cranfield University, American University in Iraqi Kurdistan, the University of Victoria, and London University.

He added that the university will be carrying out a wide range of scientific and practical initiatives throughout this semester that are aligned with the needs of the UAE business sector and its interests in Abu Dhabi. ADU will actively be conducting scientific research projects in the environmental, practical, and construction fields. The Spring Semester will witness a notable shift in the field of scientific research, since the university has just finished adding the last touches to the scientific research strategy which it intends to carry out within the foreseeable future. This research will be conducted in cooperation with a number of domestic parties and agencies, as well as the public and private sectors. He added that the university gives priority to scientific research in order to fulfill its academic and community role.

Ms. Nevine Al Shura, the ADU Registrar, noted that the university has organized an orientation day for the 394 freshman students last week on both campuses (Abu Dhabi and Al Ain). The orientation demonstrated the rights and duties of university students, academic integrity policies as well as the nature of all academic and registration processes at the university.

The orientation also included a comprehensive tour of both the university campus facilities and student dorms for those who will be residing there. Freshman students were also given the opportunity to raise any questions or inquiries after each tour and answers were given by the staff and faculty in attendance.
