Welcome to the Master of Engineering Management (MEM) program at ADU.
This is a unique graduate program for professionals who seek advancement in their career and enhancement of their knowledge in the field of engineering management. The program targets graduates of all engineering disciplines, in addition to computer science graduates, and allows students to widen their breadth of knowledge beyond their technical field into Management and Business. The program curriculum is developed to be project-based and industry-oriented to meet the career needs of practitioners, engineers, IT professionals, project managers, and engineering managers. To accommodate the schedule of working adults, all courses are set to start after 6 PM and students meet once a week for each course.
In collaboration with Purdue, ADU, which proudly shares Abu Dhabi’s Vision 2030, has developed the MEM program with courses, research and a curriculum that were carefully selected in the context of the country’s current and future needs and which will be taught by a range of full-time experienced faculty members, all of whom have both theoretical and practical knowledge with PhD Degrees from well-recognized world-wide Universities.
MEM aims at increasing its national and international academic collaboration and local industry cooperation. The MEM program is establishing excellent industry relations by participating in local economical and industrial events and benefiting from ADU strategic location at the Abu Dhabi-Al-Ain-Dubai junction near to Abu Dhabi International Airport and the Industry City of Abu Dhabi (ICAD).
Our student’s body includes engineers and professionals from a wide spectrum of industries with diverse business background. ADU’s MEM students will be prepared in various fields of Engineering Administration and will be able to enjoy the ADU-Purdue Technology and Faculty Expertise by applying the latest scientific and practical methods used by prestigious enterprises in the field.
Please feel free to contact me for any inquiry on the MEM program.

The Master of Engineering Management (MEM) program at Abu Dhabi University is offered by the College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) in collaboration with the College of Business Administration (COBA) and Purdue University Calumet. The program accepted the first cohort of students in Spring 2010. The program consists of 12 courses (36 credit hours), 7 of which are engineering courses and 5 are business courses. The students could also do a thesis in lieu of 2 elective courses. The new program accepts students with a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science or IT.
The MEM program offers its students unique opportunities for advanced education in the field of engineering management as well as opportunities for leadership growth at personal and professional levels. This program is an alternative to an MBA offered to engineers who are looking for improving their engineering education and acquiring business and management skills.
The program aims at producing graduates who (i) can make responsible engineering and business decisions, (ii) have the knowledge and skills necessary for planning and strategic management of organizations, (iii) have the ability to use principles of engineering and management in the modeling, design, and management of complex systems, and (iv) are capable of using quality standards to assess the quality of engineering systems.
The MEM program is essential as the UAE economy seeks to have effective and efficient industry. Well developed and fine-tuned engineering management skills are going to be needed to enable the country to attract and retain highly qualified international and local engineers. Failure to develop these engineering management skills at both strategic and operational levels is likely to result in the loss of professionals capable of managing engineering-based industries.
This program has been introduced at Abu Dhabi University in response to the UAE market needs where engineering is driving all sectors of the industry and where engineering managerial positions are crucial to the UAE firms. The graduates of this program will train Emirati and expatriate professionals to lead and manage projects in the UAE engineering-based industries.
The admission requirements for The Master of Engineering Management Program are identical to postgraduate admission into Abu Dhabi University.
All students applying for postgraduate admission to the proposed MEM program need to have the following:
- A Bachelor’s Degree recognized by the UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research with GPA of 3.0 or higher in an Engineering discipline or in Computer Science.
- A score of 550 or above on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) including the Written English Test (WET), or score of 6.0 (out of 9) on International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or their equivalent. Either test must be taken no more than two years prior to admission to ADU. Students who have achieved scores less than 550 on the TOEFL or 6.0 on the IELTS will be required to take ADU’s post-graduate Accuplacer test conducted by ADU’s English Language Center. For those who graduated from institution where the medium of instruction is English, the above requirement can be waived given the proof of English requirement satisfied at the undergraduate entrance.
- According to the score achieved in the Accuplacer test, students might be accepted on condition that they must submit an acceptable score in TOEFL (minimum of 550) or IELTS (minimum of 6.0) before they are granted full admission to the MEM program.
- The following documents are also required for admission:
- Official transcript from accredited university, college or institute.
- Official Birth Certificate.
- 6 Passport Size Photographs.
- Copy of the Passport.
- A Satisfactory Conduct Record.
- Application form and application fee.
- Two letters of recommendation
- A certificate of work experience, if any.
- A Written Essay of 500 words stating the motivation to pursue the program of study.
- Applicants who have not taken any business courses as part of their Bachelor’s Degree will have to take 3 pre-core (or foundation) courses in Organizational Behavior and Management, Financial Accounting and Managerial Economics. Pre-core courses are waived if a student has taken any of them in his/her undergraduate degree with a score of B or above.
Conditional Admission
For students with CGPA between 2.5 and 2.99, they can register in a maximum of 9 credit hours in the first semester, and should achieve a GPA of at least 3.0 in that semester. For students with CGPA between 2.0 and 2.49 and have at least 5 years of relevant professional experience, we may offer them “mature entry.”
