Welcome Message from the CRGS Dean
Throughout the past 20th Century, the world has witnessed tremendous and drastic developments in various areas of knowledge and information technology that have produced remarkable widespread impact on almost all branches of science, including medicine, economics, sociology, culture, communication and security. These developments have been of great benefit to both individuals and societies alike. Meanwhile, human societies have been successful in controlling the environment and capitalizing on its quantitative and qualitative resources, and also in achieving a dramatic breakthrough in production rates, as well as in developing new speedy means of local and international communication.
Abu Dhabi University has ever since been aware of the substantial and effective role of academic research in the advancement of society. In recognition of this fact, the University has always been keen to set up academic research as a fundamental and integral part of the University structure, providing financial support and spiritual encouragement necessary to promote academic research at the University. The University goals and aspirations always go for making the best use of the intellectual capabilities of researchers and thinkers; investing findings of their research to enhance UAE development drive and qualify national capacity to be capable to adapt to the current world development and changes. It should also be qualified to meet requirements of relevant UAE organizations in different sectors, such as industry, economy, society, culture, health, mass media, and security and participate in the development of these institutions.
In pursuit of our commitment to address present and future pivotal issues of the society and the region, we have been expanding pathways to foster applied research in a broad spectrum of disciplinary and cross-disciplinary areas of strategic importance. An increased importance is given to research during the period 2009-2013 so as to pave a foundation to the second ten-year plan period, 2013-2023, when Abu Dhabi University aspires to achieve a premier research position in the region. During the academic year 2009-2010, various research promotion programs are implemented as a strategic step to make Abu Dhabi University a centre of research excellence. Along with enabling Abu Dhabi University to take a leading role in the research initiatives of the region, these initiatives would also contribute to the enhancement of student learning and add significant value to University’s graduate and undergraduate programs.
