Dean, College of Law
Professor Hany Dowidar was appointed Dean of ADU’s College of Law in 2016. Before this appointment he served in senior academic positions in the University of Alexandria, Egypt, as well as prestigious universities across the Middle East, in a career spanning 30 years.
Throughout his career, Professor Dowidar has specialised in the areas of commercial and maritime law, working as a practicing lawyer in the oil sector. He is a Certified International Arbitrator and served as a member on a number of boards and agencies including the Regional Council of Experts of the Francophone University Agency, the Board of Trustees of ERRADA Initiative at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Egypt, and the MENA Lexis Nexis Scientific Legal Expert Board. He also worked with the expert team within the Baker & McKenzie – Habib Almulla law firm on the draft of the UAE Maritime Code.
His research interests lie in commercial, maritime and air law, legal research methodology, international commercial litigation and the drafting of laws and regulations.
Professor Dowidar gained his undergraduate and postgraduate law degrees from the University of Alexandria, Egypt, and went on to receive his PhD in Commercial Law from Bordeaux University, France.
