Assistant Professor, Hematology and Molecular Biology, College of Health Sciences

Dr. Amel Hamdi is an Assistant Professor at Abu Dhabi University’s College of Health Sciences. She earned her Master’s degree in Oncology from Curie Institute (France), followed by a PhD in Biology. Building on this foundation in oncology, she pursued advanced research training at McGill University’s Lady Davis Institute (Canada), where she served successively as a Postdoctoral Fellow, Research Associate, and Project Director. With extensive international research experience across France, Canada, and the UAE, Dr. Hamdi has contributed to projects in oncology, molecular hematology, iron metabolism, and red cell biology. She has authored numerous scientific publications in leading journals, co-authored chapters in Williams Hematology, and received multiple awards from the International BioIron Society and the American Society of Hematology.

Her research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of iron metabolism, erythropoiesis, and blood disorders, including anemias, thalassemias, and leukemias. By integrating molecular biology with translational research, her work aims to identify novel biomarkers and therapeutic strategies to improve patient outcomes. Dr. Hamdi is also committed to academic leadership and teaching excellence, fostering international collaborations and mentoring the next generation of biomedical scientists.
