Prof. Nadine Darwiche

Professor, Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics, Faculty of Medicine, American University of Beirut, Lebanon

Dr. Nadine Darwiche is a tenured professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics at the Faculty of Medicine, American University of Beirut (AUB), Lebanon. She earned her PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from George Washington University and trained at the National Cancer Institute, NIH USA. She further expanded her expertise through Harvard Medical School’s Cancer Biology and Therapeutics program and a Healthcare Management and Leadership Diploma from AUB.

Dr. Darwiche teaches molecular biology of cancer, genetics, and biochemistry, and has been instrumental in developing AUB’s doctoral programs in Cell and Molecular Biology, Biomedical Sciences, and Biomedical Engineering. She has mentored over 60 graduate students and received multiple Teaching Excellence Awards, along with election to the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Honor Society.

Her research focuses on cancer prevention and targeted therapy, with emphasis on retinoids, medicinal plants from the MENA region, and DNA polymerase inhibitors. She also investigates innovative nanoparticle formulations, cancer metabolism, epigenetic regulation, microbiome interactions, and fasting in cancer prevention. Using diverse in vitro and in vivo models—including colorectal, breast, brain, skin, and hematological cancers—she studies mechanisms of tumor biology and therapy. She has published over 100 scientific articles with 5,350 citations and an h-index of 37.
