Workers on offshore oils rigs are constantly risking their lives due to the location of these rigs in the middle of the ocean. One of the biggest risks to these workers are falling from the rigs and drowning especially during bad weather. Operating UAVs can reduce the risks of injury, human errors and enhances inspections, surveying and emergency operations. The main objectives of the project are; to design and develop a small rotary drone that is able to deliver floatation device to a drowning offshore worker and return to the oil rig under variety of weather conditions; to evaluate drone structural integrity and flight endurance, and; to simulate basic aerodynamic forces that act on the structure.
The purpose of this grant is to strengthen research capabilities at Abu Dhabi University. The grant provides funding for research projects that will elevate Abu Dhabi University’s reputation as a key UAE research institution.
The recipients of the Research Incentive Grant will be expected to publish the results of their work in a refereed journal/conference proceeding and to participate in ADU’s research conference.
