Montasir Qasymeh

Professor Montasir Qasymeh is the Associate Provost for Research, Innovation, and Academic Development and a Professor of Electrical Engineering at Abu Dhabi University (ADU). Since joining ADU, he has contributed to building a stronger research culture and enhancing the University's engagement with industry, with a particular emphasis on applied research and innovation.

Under his leadership, ADU has established two applied research institutes, a quantum computing laboratory - the first of its kind in the MENA region - and the Abu Dhabi Graphene Center, the University's first industrial research facility. He has also worked on expanding collaboration frameworks between academia and industry, supporting technology transfer, and helping create startups based on ADU's patented technologies. These efforts have contributed to a marked increase in the University's research output and quality metrics, doubling several key indicators.

Professor Qasymeh holds 17 U.S. patents and has authored or co-authored over 70 peer-reviewed publications. His research focuses on quantum systems, nanoplasmonics, and terahertz wave engineering, particularly the application of two-dimensional graphene materials in device design.

He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Dalhousie University, Canada, in 2010 and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Ottawa in 2011. In recognition of his contributions to research and innovation, he was awarded the Obada Prize for Inspirational Arab Researcher in 2024.

Professor Qasymeh is a member of the editorial board of Scientific Reports (Nature Portfolio) and has taken on several academic leadership roles in international events. These include serving as General Co-Chair of the International Conference on Electrical, Communication, and Computer Engineering (ICEET) in 2023 and 2024 and Subcommittee Chair for Quantum Science and Technology at PIERS 2025.
