Profile Details
Dr. Charilaos Mertzanis joined Abu Dhabi University in 2018. He received his undergraduate degree from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece and his Ph.D. from the New School for Social Research in the USA, where he studied as a Fulbright and a NATO fellow. He previously held positions as a senior policy advisor at the Hellenic Capital Market Commission, Adjunct Professor at the Hellenic Open University, and Associate Professor of Finance at the American University in Cairo.
Before entering academia, Dr. Mertzanis served as the Director of Research and Market Regulation in the Hellenic Capital Market Commission for 15 years, the Director of the Industrial Liaison Office of the University of Thessaly, an advisor to the Chamber of Commerce on SME financing, and a statistical consultant in the NYC Board of Education's research department. Dr. Charilaos has participated in professional international fora and meetings with the EU Commission, EU Council, CESR, and OECD as a senior expert or country representative and has been a member of the OECD Committee on Corporate Governance since 1999.
