    Conference Information

    At the turn of the millennium the world’s broadcasting and communication research and industries are undergoing a massive metamorphosis as well as a profound, tumultuous, rapid and unparalleled change. Digital and interactive media is now irrevocably linked with computer science, telecommunications, the Internet and World Wide Web. Given the prominence of the electronic media in the 21st century, scholars, academics and media professionals need to know how to decipher and evaluate media and communication fields in the emerging and dynamic digital age.

    Hosted by Abu Dhabi University, ICMC 2018 provides the ideal opportunity to bring together international academics and media practitioners to exchange and discuss the latest issues in media and communication in interactive digital media era.

    The Aims and Objectives of ICMC 2018 are:

    • To exchange best practices and promote international partnership and cooperation among academia and media practitioners worldwide.
    • To create an international forum to present, discuss and exchange the latest academic research in media and communication.

  • Keynote speakers

    Mike Friedrichsen (Prof. Dr.) 

    Mike Friendrichsen is founding president of the Berlin University of Digital Sciences in Berlin and Full Professor of Media Economics and Media innovation at the Stuttgart Media University. He studied Business Administration, Political Economics, Communication Sciences and Political Sciences in Kiel, Mainz, San Diego, Canterbury and Berlin. He earned his Doctorate at the Free University of Berlin in 1996 at the Institute of Empirical Market and Communication Research. His main research interests are Digital Economy, Data Sciences, Media Management and Media Economics, Empirical Research, New Media Technologies und Business Informatics. Mike Friedrichsen emphasizes transfer between the University and Economy and in leads several Networking Organisations and he is supervisory board member in various enterprises and organizations. He is Research Director at the Global Institute for Digital Transformation (GIDT) and the Institute of Media Business (IMB). Mike Friedrichsen is author and editor of several books and has also published in different journals. He is editor of book series and journals 

    Steven S. Wildman

    Steven S. Wildman is a Visiting Scholar with the Interdisciplinary Telecommunications Program and an affiliate of the Silicon Flatirons Center, both at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Dr. Wildman is also a Fellow with the Columbia Institute of Tele-Information at Columbia University and a Senior Fellow with the Quello Center at Michigan State University, where he holds the title of Professor & J.H. Quello Chair of Telecommunication Studies Emeritus. Prior academic positions include: J.H. Quello Chair of Telecommunication Studies and Director of the Quello Center for Telecommunications Management and Law at Michigan State University; Wee Kim Wee Professor of Communication, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (while on MSU sabbatical); Associate Professor of Communication Studies and Director for the Program in Telecommunications Science, Management & Policy at Northwestern University; and Assistant Professor of Economics at UCLA. During 2013 he serviced as the Chief Economist for the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (while on leave from Michigan State University).

    Dr. Wildman holds a PhD in Economics from Stanford University and a BA in Economics from Wabash College.  He is well known for his research and publications on economics and policy for communication industries, which include eight co-authored or co-edited books and numerous journal articles, chapters in edited books, and publications in refereed conference proceedings. He has served as a consultant offering advice, conducting studies, writing reports and providing expert testimony for corporations, trade associations and government agencies.

  • Submission Guidelines

    Submission procedure

    • All submissions and presentations must be in English or Arabic.
    • All submissions must follow instructions provided in paper submission instructions (see below).
    • If multiple authors are involved, one should be designated to receive correspondence regarding the paper.

    Paper submission instructions

    • Full papers must be maximum of 20 pages (12 pt. Times New Roman, single spaced) including abstract (250 words), at least five keywords, tables, pictures, references and/or appendix. 
    • Separate title page should include the paper title, author(s), university affiliation(s), e-mail(s) and postal address (es). 
    • Formatting: please follow APA paper and reference formatting style (https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/)
    • Submitted papers must not have been previously presented, published or accepted for publication.
    • Each paper presentation will last 15 minutes.
    • All the papers should be submitted as a word document format to icmc2018@adu.ac.ae

    Submission review and publication

    All submissions will be double-blind peer reviewed.
    To be included in the conference program, at least one of each paper´s co-authors must participate in the conference.

  • Publication Opportunity

    All accepted full papers will be published in the Abstracts & Proceedings CD-ROM (e-book) with the ISBN number and will be given to the participants on the conference day.

    • Notification of Acceptance: 5 February 2018
    • Conference Registration Deadline: 15 February 2018
