GCAA Holds Global Aviation Management & Controls workshop at ADU
30 December 2019
The SRM (Safety Risk Management) department of the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) held the Global Aviation Management and Controls Workshop at Abu Dhabi University in November 2019 in cooperation with the Department of Aviation.
As an integral part of the GCAA, the SRM department has a vital function in promoting safety - one of the several pillars of a State Safety Program. In the last few years, the SRM department conducted several visits to operators in the UAE aviation industry with the objective of safety promotion and the provision of awareness sessions about the Voluntary Reporting System (VORSY).
This month they visited Abu Dhabi University and delivered an interactive session through a series of presentations by industry experts. The workshop was inaugurated with a welcoming speech by Dr. Oliver Lehmann, Department Chair and Professor of Aviation, and then an opening speech by Captain Ibrahim Alhamadi, Manager of Safety Risk Management. This was followed by presentations by Mr. Muhammad Athar Shams, Senior Safety Risk Specialist, Eng. Ziad R. Haddad, Safety Risk Specialist – Airworthiness, and Mr. Kamran Sadiq Chaudhry, Safety Data Analyst, on various aviation safety topics. The objective of the workshop was to raise awareness and provide insight to aviation students and faculty on the latest trends in safety issues reported through the VORSY. This enhanced knowledge of the state aviation safety systems will be highly beneficial to the aviation students during their aviation careers.
The Department of Aviation would like to thank Dr. Hamdi Sheibani, Dean of the College of Engineering, for his support and patronage as well as Ms. Zinab Al Hashimi and her team of student volunteers for the successful organization of the workshop.
