Chemical engineering is a branch of engineering that deals with the conversion of raw materials to useful products by applying the principles of science and engineering. It involves the design, operation, and maintenance of facilities ranging from refineries, petrochemical, pharmaceutical plants, and nuclear-waste processing plants, through to food and materials facilities.
Chemical engineers develop, design, and operate different kinds of manufacturing processes, applying the principles of chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and engineering to solve issues in a wide variety of industrial fields efficiently, cost effectively, and in an environmentally friendly way.
The challenging four-year program integrates courses in mathematics, chemistry, physics, and chemical engineering, and provides a balanced education between theory and practice. During the program you will be given the opportunity to design and conduct laboratory experiments, use industry-specific software for process simulation and design, and integrate all theoretical and practical knowledge gained through the design of a chemical processing plant in your final year. In addition, you will round up your Chemical engineering education through a carefully selected two month internship in one of the many relevant industries in the UAE or abroad.
This program is accredited by the Ministry of Education in the UAE and ABET.
“The ADU experience is about so much more than just studying.”
"Chemical Engineering was the perfect fit for me as I had loved chemistry, math and lab work since high school. I had a few universities to choose from but ADU came highly recommended by a family member who had also studied there. I made the right choice.
The ADU experience is about so much more than just studying. You get the highest standards of academic support and technical knowledge – the teaching and lab facilities are amazing - but you also get to have a social life! The flexibility of the class and exam schedules, combined with the support and advice you receive from the professors and staff, contribute hugely to this."
Tuition is based upon the College and/or Department classification as opposed to the course classification or level. Tuition rates for undergraduate students vary from the tuition rates for graduate students.
The tuition fee calculations are an example only and are based on the assumption that elective courses will be taken with the College that the student is taking their major with. However, if the student selects elective courses outside of this College, the total cost payable may increase or decrease to reflect the tuition rate of the College where the elective is delivered.
Costs of books and supplies are not included in the Tuition and Fees. Students at Abu Dhabi University are also required to pay certain fees and other costs to attend the University. Abu Dhabi University reserves the right to change tuition and fee rates at any time. A tuition schedule is published prior to registration for each semester.
For more information, please click here to view the University's tuition fee structure. Fees are subject to change during the year as per government charges and testing bodies.
According to Forbes, chemical engineering was the highest paying job in 2016. Graduate Chemical Engineers are in high demand throughout the world with roles including operation of plants, troubleshooting manufacturing processes, designing plant layouts, evaluation of equipment and processes, and research to develop new and improved manufacturing processes.
Our students have taken up internships in a wide range of companies including Abu Dhabi Ports, ADCO, ADGAS, Al Masaood Oil & Gas, Arab Geotech Laboratories, Bureau Veritas, Gulf Laboratory, Masdar Institute, Schlumberger, Union Chemicals Factory, Worley Parsons and others.
