Civil engineering, the oldest engineering profession, is a broad discipline that covers many aspects of our everyday lives. As a civil engineer you will have the chance to plan, design, construct and manage towers & villas, highways, roads & transportation systems, sewage and water systems, desalination & waste-water treatment plants, tunnels, bridges, dams & canals, harbours & ports and facilities for solid, chemical & nuclear waste.
Civil engineers are leaders in the economic development of the UAE, building and managing mega projects that are transforming the UAE to a knowledge-based, sustainable, and diversified economy. Civil engineering is an integral part of the UAE’s National Innovation Strategy in renewable energy, water, transportation, technology and education.
Through this program, you will gain a thorough understanding of the fundamental subjects that underpin civil engineering and build skills to design and propose solutions using advanced tools and technologies including computer aided design (CAD), geographical information systems (GIS) and 3D computer modelling. You will acquire problem solving and analysis abilities to find practical solutions to real life civil engineering problems whilst taking into account the relevant social, economic and environmental and sustainability requirements.
If you excel in the program you will have the opportunity to receive a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from ADU and a Master’s degree from our partner, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA, through our unique 3+2 program. The University of Illinois is one of the top engineering universities in the USA and its civil engineering program is one of the best in the world.
Our partnership with the University of Illinois
The University of Illinois was founded in 1867 with a threefold mission of teaching, research and public service. The mission of the College of Engineering is to provide excellence in education, research, and public service and instil in students the attitudes, values, vision and training that will prepare them for a lifetime of continued learning and leadership in engineering.
"The professors are supportive and, most importantly, caring."
My father is a civil engineer so I know about the many opportunities for civil engineers in the UAE. There was never any doubt in my mind what I wanted to study and, as to where I wanted to study… well, I’d heard good things from friends about ADU and also knew it had a great reputation in the market.
The engineering facilities are amazing. The custom-built College of Engineering facility has some of the best lab facilities in the UAE. The professors are supportive and, most importantly, caring. Each semester there is a recognition ceremony for students who achieve a GPA of 3.5 or above. I think this kind of acknowledgment is important to keep us motivated.
Tuition is based upon the College and/or Department classification as opposed to the course classification or level. Tuition rates for undergraduate students vary from the tuition rates for graduate students.
The tuition fee calculations are an example only and are based on the assumption that elective courses will be taken with the College that the student is taking their major with. However, if the student selects elective courses outside of this College, the total cost payable may increase or decrease to reflect the tuition rate of the College where the elective is delivered.
Costs of books and supplies are not included in the Tuition and Fees. Students at Abu Dhabi University are also required to pay certain fees and other costs to attend the University. Abu Dhabi University reserves the right to change tuition and fee rates at any time. A tuition schedule is published prior to registration for each semester.
For more information, please click here to view the University's tuition fee structure. Fees are subject to change during the year as per government charges and testing bodies.
Both private companies and public agencies seek civil engineers for a variety of professional positions due to the versatility of their skills and their technical and management capabilities. Many graduates work for local and international engineering consulting firms or construction companies as design engineers, field engineers and project managers. They also join government agencies to oversee transportation, water supply, environmental protection, and resource management.
Graduates of the program quickly find work in prestigious local, national and international companies and agencies. These include the Ghantoot Group, Trojan General Contracting LLC, Target Engineering Construction Company LLC, Dhabi Contracting LLC, Musanada, ADCO, Abu Dhabi Distribution Company, Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council, AECOM, Al Jaber Group, KEO Consulting, Parsons, Schlumberger, Gulf Concrete and many more. Some have risen to leadership positions in only a few years.
