Zakat Fund and ADU Launch Annual Fundraising Initiative to Support 500 Students Financially

Zakat Fund in collaboration with Abu Dhabi University (ADU) have launched the ‘Our Youth Our Responsibility, Our Zakat Our Immunity' initiative to raise funds for 500 deserving students with limited financial resources.

Zakat Fund in collaboration with ADU have launched the ‘Our Youth Our Responsibility, Our Zakat Our Immunity' initiative to raise funds for 500 deserving students with limited financial resources. In line with the UAE’s Year of Tolerance, the initiative aims to reduce financial burden on college students, regardless of nationality, who are eligible as per the Zakat Fund criteria.

HE Abdullah Bin Aqeeda Al Muhairi, Secretary General of Zakat Fund pointed out that the initiative is taking place for the ninth consecutive year under the ‘Our Youth Our Responsibility, Our Zakat Our Immunity' banner. HE Al Muhairi emphasized that the initiative’s main goal is to promote the practices of almsgiving as a way to foster the spirit of social solidarity. It also aims to promote collective action, where entities continue to work closely to develop strategic initiatives that serve to encourage more social responsibility, which was called upon by the UAE’s leadership.

HE Al Muhairi said the initiative aims to extend aid to 500 students of different nationalities who are eligible to receiving the zakat as per the criteria set forth by the Zakat Fund. The aid allocates AED 50,000 fund for each academic year covering students’ tuition fees throughout their study at Abu Dhabi University. He also said that the launch of the campaign coincides with the holy month of Ramadan, which aims to further raise the spirit of generosity and facilitate the process of giving through traditional and digitalized payment options for donors. 

 HE Al Muhairi commented, “Since 2004, the Zakat Fund has continued to make strides towards improving funding channels with 34 channels and 11 traditional and digitalized payment methods developed to date. This has significantly helped facilitate the process of giving zakat and increase the fund’s revenue while ensuring that the Zakat Fund continues to be modernized in line with our mission for a ‘Modern Vision for a Lawful Religious Duty’.”

HE Al Muhairi also commended Abu Dhabi University for their continued development over the years and the strategic vision of H.E. Ali Saeed bin Harmal Al Dhaheri, Chairman of ADU that is driving the university forward. Through this long-standing strategic partnership, Zakat Fund aims to continue contributing in providing better opportunities for students with limited financial resources and outstanding academic performance to enable them to excel in their field of studies.

HE Dr bin Harmal said that the university is delighted to continue building on this strategic partnership with Zakat Fund to continue the success of the initiative, started nine years ago. He underlined that the initiative continues to promote some of the values of kindness, generosity and social solidarity that was instilled by the late founding father Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan.

He pointed out that with this year being announced Year of Tolerance by UAE’s leadership, it is ever more important to give zakat to share in the spirit of unity and show support to all members of the society. The initiative aims to reduce the financial burden on deserving students who are eligible zakat recipients by offering them the financial support needed for any of the academic programs they enroll in, in any of the university’s branches in Abu Dhabi or Al Ain. H.E. Dr. Ali Saeed Bin Harmal Al Dhaheri, Chairman of ADU's Board of Directors said that to date the university has offered more than AED 60 million worth of funds ring-fenced to support the needs of 2,355 students.

H.E. Dr bin Harmal added that the university aims to encourage individuals, governments and corporations in the UAE to make impactful donations that will help the youth realize their academic goals at ADU as well as their personal dreams in the future.

Methods of Payment:

Donors can donate either via cash or bank check by submitting the donations directly to the Zakat Fund or Abu Dhabi University, using the name of the initiative ‘Our Youth Our Responsibility, Our Zakat Our Immunity'. Donors can also transfer the donations via bank to the Zakat Fund account number: 16420661, IBAN AE300500000000016420661 (Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank) or by sending an SMS with the code xxxx or using 8010 for AED 10 donations, 8050 for AED 50 donations, 8100 for AED 100 donations and 8200 for AED 200 donations.
