Abu Dhabi University (ADU) announced today the launch of a new incubation program led by the University’s Innovation Center. The program offers young talent the opportunity to nurture their entrepreneurial skills by working on and prototyping innovation projects that may have a wider impact on society.

The incubation program selected six teams to present their projects in 2019 through an open call. The teams represented the College of Engineering, College of Arts and Sciences, and College of Business. The themes include Unified Modelling Language State chart designed to support teaching of computer coding, safety belt project for road safety, Hydrophobic Commode for saving water in sanitary environments, sustainable means of using heat to generate energy, using water powered IoT nodes for new means of powering smart sensors, and developing Smart Bike for environmental sensing for air quality.

The selected teams will get the chance to develop their ideas into prototypes, develop marketing strategies, and present their business plans to industry executive leaders in June 2020. ADU’s Innovation Center will coordinate progress reporting and regular workshops among the incubation program members.

Commenting on the launch, Dr. Petra Turkama, Director of Innovation at ADU, said, “Innovation and entrepreneurship are the cornerstones of economic growth and prosperity. In order to sustain the UAE’s competitive advantage in the global economy, it is important for our young people to develop their entrepreneurial talent and business skills. This is where our incubation program comes in - we want to unleash their creativity and potential through the development of an environment conducive to their success and empower them to play an active role in the development of the UAE.”

Dr. Turkama expressed her gratitude to all partners who contributed to providing this opportunity for our students.

The selected students will receive a grant for developing their concept to a prototype stage. In the final event in June 2020 the projects will be presented to an expert panel for possible further incubation and funding.
