Abu Dhabi University Appoints Distinguished Visiting Research Fellows

Abu Dhabi University has appointed Professor Brian Lucey, from Trinity College Dublin, and Professor Mark Altaweel, from University College London (UCL), to its Distinguished Visiting Research Fellows program. Professor Lucey is currently the Professor of International Finance and Commodities at Trinity Business School and the director of doctoral studies at Trinity Business School. He has produced a portfolio of over 200 Scopus indexed publication with numerous articles published in the most highly cited journals. He is currently editor of the leading peer reviewed journals the International Review of Financial Analysis and the International Review of Economics and Finance. Professor Lucey brings a wealth of experience to the role and is an expert in commodity markets.  He is a thought leader who has been at the forefront of developing our understanding of the evolution of cryptocurrencies.   He joins ADU’s College of Business to support the College’s internationalisation strategy which aims to bring thought-leaders to the UAE to strengthen international academic partnerships and contribute to enhancing the UAE’s knowledge economy in the financial services sector.

thumb-Altaweel-600Professor Altaweel specialises in Near-East archaeology and is Vice-Dean for Innovation, Enterprise and Knowledge Exchange at UCL’s Institute of Archaeology. His research investigates the challenges to preserve cultural heritage including looting, deliberate destruction, development and the impact of climate change, while recognising it fundamental economic value. His research has been published in journals in different fields with applications to modern and ancient studies. While visiting Abu Dhabi University, Professor Altaweel will be conducting multi-disciplinary research with faculty in College of Engineering’s Department of Compute Science and Information Technology. These projects investigate how new and emerging technologies, such as blockchain, can be developed and leveraged to vet and detail cultural objects to ensure better protection.

Professor Lucey kicked off his visiting fellowship by giving a public lecture on Finance, the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and the road to net-zero. This is a timely topic for the UAE given that it is the first country in the middle east to commit to reach net-zero by 2050.
