Professor Iles is Dean of Abu Dhabi University’s College of Health Sciences. Along with this role, Professor Iles is Chief Scientific Officer with MAP Sciences – a company that develops medical diagnostics and digital diagnostic applications – where he is developing IP to market biotechnology tech transfer in cancer, haematology, and prenatal diagnosis. He is also a visiting Professor of Forensic Science at Kings College London.
Throughout his 35+ years career, Professor Iles has balanced senior management roles in academia with active research in clinical biomedical sciences. He was a Reader in Reproductive Physiology at St Bartholomew's Hospital and Queen Mary University of London, and Professor and Associate Dean for Research in Health Sciences at Middlesex University and Anglia Ruskin University. He has taught on medicine, bioscience, and social science degree programs, made significant contributions to textbooks, published over 150 peer-reviewed journal research articles and 13 peer-reviewed journal commentaries and has ten patents. He has designed intercalated BMedSci, BSc and MSc degrees at the University of London’s Faculty of Medicine and Middlesex University’s Faculty of Health and Social Sciences. Under Professor Iles’ academic management, Middlesex University scored the highest research assessment rankings the University had ever achieved in Health and Social Sciences.
Professor Iles specific areas of expertise lie in the assessment of biomarkers measurement in biological fluids and the biology and physiology of biomarkers. He is a recognized world authority on the pregnancy hormone human chorionic gonadotrophin – hCG. He is frequently called upon as an expert witness.
With a BSc in Bioanalysis, an MSc in Immunology, and PhD in Molecular Pathology, Professor Iles is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, a Fellow of the Society for Biology, and a Chartered Biologist.
