A bachelor’s degree is the most well-known type of undergraduate degree. However, it is not the only program that comes under this category.

Many people don’t realise that there is such a thing as an associate degree. Often called a ‘two-year degree’, this qualification is also classed as an undergraduate study program.

The entry requirements for an associate degree are often less demanding than the one’s for a bachelor’s. Therefore, many people use this shorter degree as a pathway into higher education, and also as a way of earning extra credits to put towards a bachelor’s degree application.

As mentioned above, an associate degree takes just two years to complete.

Meanwhile, completing a bachelor’s degree is a lengthier process that normally takes between three to four years. However, bachelor’s degrees tend to bring more benefits than associate degrees do, and employers value them very highly.

Assessed through a combination of exams, essays and assignments, some bachelor’s degrees even include a year of industry work experience, or opportunities to study abroad.
