Abu Dhabi University (ADU) is actively engaged in a diverse portfolio of regional and global networks that advance sustainability, research collaboration, and knowledge exchange. These networks collectively reinforce ADU’s commitment to addressing global challenges, supporting national priorities, and contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Through its participation in leading platforms such as the Arab Universities Knowledge Network for Climate Change and Carbon Footprint (AUKNCCF) and the UAE Universities Climate Network (UCN), ADU plays a pivotal role in driving climate action, promoting carbon reduction strategies, and fostering academic collaboration on environmental sustainability. These networks enable the University to contribute to policy-relevant research and support the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 agenda.
ADU’s global engagement is further strengthened through partnerships such as the Texas International Education Consortium (TIEC) and the Eurasian Network, which provide access to international academic ecosystems, facilitate joint research initiatives, and promote student and faculty mobility. These collaborations enhance knowledge transfer, innovation, and cross-cultural academic exchange on a global scale.
In addition, ADU actively participates in influential multilateral and regional platforms including BRICS, SUSAN (Sustainability Alliance Network), and MEBAAS (Middle East Business and Academic Association for Sustainability). These networks support interdisciplinary collaboration, sustainable business practices, and innovation-driven solutions that address economic, environmental, and societal challenges.
A key highlight of ADU’s sustainability leadership is its role in coordinating and contributing to the UAE Water Academic Carnival, a national academic initiative aligned with UN SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation and supporting preparations for the UN 2026 Water Conference. This platform exemplifies ADU’s commitment to research-driven solutions and policy engagement in critical areas such as water security and environmental resilience.
Collectively, these networks position Abu Dhabi University as a hub for impactful research, global partnerships, and sustainable innovation. By leveraging these collaborations, ADU continues to enhance its role in shaping future-ready education, advancing knowledge, and contributing to sustainable development at both regional and global levels.
STRATEGIC PURPOSE
This document presents the consolidated Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Strategy for the period 2024–2028.
The Strategy operationalizes the Board-approved Diversity & Inclusion Policy and Fair Treatment Policy into measurable institutional targets, governance mechanisms, and performance metrics.

Diversity Equity Inclusion Inter-University Competition 2022
Congratulations to Dana Mohamed Ali, Hala Nawaf Alhalah, and Enaam Mohamed Hassan Ahmed, Architecture students in ADU’s College of Engineering, Al Ain. They tied for first place in the first edition of the Diversity Equity Inclusion Inter-University Competition 2022, organized by Gensler ME. Competing in teams with students from AUD, Heriot-Watt, DIDI, and Ajman University, they developed concepts that will now be manufactured and displayed within the Alserkal Space in Dubai in May 2022.

Abu Dhabi University (ADU) recognizes the crucial role that social aspects play in achieving sustainability and fostering thriving communities. In response to this understanding, ADU offers comprehensive training programs focused specifically on the social aspects of sustainability. These programs aim to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and perspectives needed to address social challenges, promote social equity, and build resilient communities within the context of sustainability.
ADU's training on the social aspects of sustainability covers a wide range of topics, including social justice, community development, cultural diversity, human rights, social entrepreneurship, and stakeholder engagement. Through interdisciplinary coursework, students explore the complex interplay between social dynamics and environmental issues, gaining a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of social, economic, and environmental systems.
The university's faculty, comprised of leading experts and scholars in sustainability and social sciences, guide students through engaging discussions, hands-on projects, and experiential learning opportunities. Distributed 70 Iftar boxes to Underprivileged Individuals
During the holy month of Ramadan, our ADU nutrition students from the College of Health Sciences participated in a quantity food production event to serve their culinary course and humanitarian efforts in collaboration with the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Under the supervision of Ms. Dima El-Halabi, Senior Nutrition Instructor, and Sunil Choyyan, Executive Chef, students planned, prepared and distributed 70 Iftar boxes to underprivileged individuals. Each box was filled with a main course, appetizers, and dessert. Wishing everyone a Ramadan Kareem!

Join us for the upcoming 3rd Autism Spectrum Disorders Symposium on 26 April 2023, organized by our College of Arts & Sciences. This online event will take place from 12 pm – 3.30 pm and will include guest speakers and panellists who are experts in the field of Autism In honor of the International Week of the Deaf (IWD), we'd like you to meet our alumna, Maha Al Mehairbi, who has a passion for sign language, which led her to start the Handspeakers organization. According to Maha, “I started learning the Emirati Sign language through Instagram videos in 2016, and it took me one year to learn the basics. Abu Dhabi University developed a comprehensive assessment tool to evaluate individuals' understanding of environmental, social, and economic sustainability concepts, encompassing topics like climate change, social justice, circular economy, and sustainable business practices to enhance sustainability literacy and knowledge among its stakeholders and wider community.
Abu Dhabi University (ADU) is at the forefront of promoting sustainability literacy and knowledge among its students, faculty, staff, and wider community. To measure and enhance sustainability literacy and knowledge, ADU has developed a comprehensive assessment tool designed to evaluate individuals' understanding of key sustainability concepts, principles, and practices.
The sustainability literacy assessment tool employed by ADU encompasses a range of topics related to environmental, social, and economic sustainability, including but not limited to:
Environmental Sustainability: This component assesses knowledge of environmental issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, resource depletion, and ecosystem services. Participants are tested on their understanding of the causes and impacts of environmental degradation, as well as potential solutions and strategies for promoting environmental sustainability.
Social Sustainability: This component evaluates awareness of social justice, equity, diversity, and community engagement within the context of sustainability. Participants are assessed on their understanding of social determinants of health, human rights, cultural diversity, social inclusion, and stakeholder engagement in sustainable development initiatives.
Economic Sustainability: This component examines knowledge of economic principles, resource management, sustainable business practices, and green technologies. Participants are tested on their understanding of concepts such as circular economy, sustainable finance, corporate social responsibility, and the role of entrepreneurship in driving sustainable innovation and growth.
The sustainability literacy assessment tool utilized by ADU may take various forms, including online quizzes, surveys, written assessments, case studies, group projects, and presentations. The assessment tool is designed to be adaptable and customizable to accommodate different audiences, learning objectives, and educational contexts.
The results of the sustainability literacy assessment provide valuable insights into individuals' strengths, areas for improvement, and overall understanding of sustainability concepts.
